Quick answer
A good study sheet with Docsi AI takes three steps: add your material and narrow down the chapter, give a checkable request (“one page, ten key terms, five review questions with answers, page numbers”) and actively use the result. The sheet helps most when you test yourself with the questions and spread repetition over several days – according to learning research, both are among the most effective techniques.
Key takeaways
- Narrow down chapter, level and sources before requesting a study sheet.
- Self-testing and spaced repetition work better than summarising alone.
- Ask for review questions with answers and page numbers.
- Check formulas, units and technical terms against the original.
- Review marked gaps with new questions from the same source.
Set the scope
Add the lecture or your notes and name the relevant chapter. With several files, briefly explain their roles: slides as the main source and your notes as supporting material, for example. Missing content should be marked as a gap rather than filled from general knowledge.
Write a request you can check
- Name the topic and goal: revision, explaining terms or preparing for an exam.
- Ask for a clear structure: key points, terms, an example and review questions.
- Set the language and length. A compact study sheet is often enough for a short chapter.
- Request source references and check definitions, formulas and numbers against the original passages.
Study with the result
Leave the answers to review questions out at first so you can test yourself. Then request explanations for the questions you find difficult. In the same conversation, you can refer to the previous result when asking for a new study sheet.
An automatically generated study sheet does not replace course requirements or a subject review. Pay particular attention to exceptions and limitations that can be lost when shortening material.
What learning research says about study sheets
Summarising on its own is a rather weak study technique; self-testing and spaced repetition work much better. The US Institute of Education Sciences recommends in its practice guide to spread review over time and to use questions for retrieval. For you, this means: a study sheet is a tool for practice, not a substitute for it.
So do not just ask Docsi for a summary but for retrieval material: review questions with answers, cloze texts for definitions or flashcards with term and explanation. Docsi lays out flashcards as card pairs in the PDF and, if you like, also delivers them as a table you can import into a flashcard app.
Setting up a review plan
After the first study sheet, plan fixed review dates, for example after one day, after three days and after a week. In the first round you answer the questions without looking at the answers and mark what you did not know. At the next date, ask Docsi to write new questions from the same source only for the marked points.
If you tell him explicitly, Docsi can remember your field of study, exam date or citation style. You see and delete these notes in the settings. That way you do not have to explain the context every time, and the questions fit your level better.
Formulas, technical terms and figures
Docsi takes formulas over as text and sets them legibly in the PDF; still check subscripts, signs and units against the original, especially if the lecture notes were a scan. Technical terms should be named exactly as in your lecture. Add to your request: “Use the terms from the notes, no synonyms.”
Docsi reads figures and diagrams from slides only through their text or text recognition; the graphic itself is not redrawn. If a figure matters for the exam, add a reference to the slide in the study sheet (“see slide 14”) and study it from the original.
Study sheets for different exam formats
A multiple-choice exam needs different preparation than an oral exam or an essay. For multiple choice, ask Docsi for definitions and typical confusions (“Which terms are often mixed up?”). For oral exams, open questions you must answer in two or three sentences help. For essays you need lines of argument with supporting passages.
Name the format explicitly in your request: “Oral exam, 20 minutes, focus on chapters 3 and 4”. Docsi then adapts question depth and scope. For maths-based subjects, a worked example from your exercise sheets helps; Docsi calculates exactly, but check every intermediate step against the model solution.
Using study sheets in a study group
In a study group, each person can prepare one chapter with Docsi. So that the sheets fit together, agree on a shared template first: same structure, same number of review questions, sources with page numbers. Copy the template as a request from this guide and only change the chapter and source.
Share the sheets as PDF for reading and as Word files for adding to. Check three statements of each other’s sheets on the page given; this uncovers errors and is good revision at the same time. Make sure you only share material you are allowed to pass on – such as your own notes rather than copyrighted textbook chapters.
Study sheets for languages and vocabulary
For language courses, Docsi works especially well for vocabulary lists with example sentences from your own course material. Ask for a table with word, translation, part of speech and a sentence from the text in which the word appears; the page reference shows you where to read the context. As CSV, the list can be imported into many flashcard apps.
Docsi summarises grammar rules from your textbook but, if you say so in the request, adds no rules that are not in it. For pronunciation you still need audio sources; Docsi does not process sound.
A worked scenario
An example: for a biology exam you have lecture notes with 60 slides on cellular respiration. Instead of processing everything at once, you first ask Docsi for an outline of the slides by topic. Then, for the topic “glycolysis”, you request a one-page study sheet with ten terms, one takeaway and five review questions with answers and slide numbers.
The next day you answer the questions without looking and mark two you were unsure about. Three days later you have Docsi write new questions from the same slides on exactly those two points. That way you review precisely what has not stuck yet, instead of reading the whole set of slides again.
Key terms explained
- Retrieval practice
- Learning by actively recalling, for example with review questions or flashcards, instead of re-reading.
- Spaced repetition
- Reviewing at intervals over several days instead of in one long block.
- Study sheet
- A short, structured summary of a topic with key terms, takeaways and questions for practice.
- Flashcard
- A pair of question or term and answer. Docsi lays cards out in pairs in the PDF and delivers them as a table on request.
- Review question
- A question that checks whether you understood a section, ideally with an answer and page reference.
A worked example
For a chapter on photosynthesis, a page of definitions is not yet a practice plan. Divide the task into key terms, processes and a self-test. For each learning goal, ask for a question you should be able to answer without notes. Then compare with the original to ensure exceptions and limiting conditions are included. Separate course examples from additional explanations so you can identify the required material when revising.
Adapt source and scope, then use the text in Docsi. This website starts no AI task.
Check the result
If something is wrong
| Observation | Next step |
|---|---|
| Questions are too general | Provide concrete learning goals and an example of the desired question depth. |
| Formula is unreadable | Check the original page and add the correct expression as text; do not accept OCR without review. |
| Answer appears beside the question | Request a separate answer section and check that separation in the export. |
Common questions
Can I request flashcards?
Yes. Request a table with questions and answers. The document can display it as cards; this does not automatically connect an external study platform.
Does Docsi know what is in my exam?
The material and instructions you provide set the scope. Name excluded chapters and required course rules yourself.
How long should a study sheet be?
One page per chapter is a good starting point. Shorter sheets force you to choose and are quicker to review.
Can I edit the study sheet afterwards?
Yes. Save it as a Word file if you want to keep writing; the PDF is meant for reading and printing.
Can Docsi write English questions from German material?
Yes. Name the language you want in the request; the source references still point to the original German passages.
Does a Docsi study sheet replace studying?
No. It saves time preparing material; practising with the questions remains your job – and that is exactly what makes learning stick.
